Google's search procedure can hardly be called an "algorithm." When it includes results that lack terms that you were searching for, makes substitutions, and sometimes ignores quotes and sometimes doesn't, it's a heuristic. It's "DWIM" (Do What I Mean) technology, which will never work well till the computer-to-brain interface is implemented.
