The WebWise 2011 conference is coming to Baltimore, Maryland, USA and runs between March 9 and 11, 02011. This annual conference is sponsored by the United States government funding agency the Institute of Museum and Library Services. The theme of this year's conference is "Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) in Education, Learning, and Research". This is one of the few conferences in its category for which no fee is required; pre-registration to reserve a spot at the conference, however, is necessary.

The Austrian National Library, the Vienna University of Technology and Austrian Computer Society are pleased to invite you to the International Conference on Preservation of Digital Objects (iPRES2010) in Vienna in September 2010. iPRES2010 will be the seventh in the series of annual international conferences that bring together researchers and practitioners from around the world to explore the latest trends, innovations, and practices in preserving our digital heritage.

Digital Preservation and Curation is evolving from a niche activity to an established practice and research field that involves various disciplines and communities. iPRES2010 will re-emphasise that preserving our scientific and cultural digital heritage requires integration of activities and research across institutional and disciplinary boundaries to adequately address the challenges in digital preservation. iPRES2010 will further strengthen the link between digital preservation research and practitioners in memory institutions and scientific data centres.

The conference is designed for conservators, digital photographers and printers. The previous conference was held in April 02006. PLANETS End of Project Conference, May 20, 02010, Berlin, Germany, and the new Open Planets Foundation

Registration is open for the PLANETS (Preservation and Long-term Access through Networked Services) End of Project Conference to be held on May 20, 02010 in Berlin, Germany. Registration closes on May 12, 02010.

The Digital Curation Institute at the University of Toronto's iSchool provides a rich, interdisciplinary environment for investigating principles and theory building related to the creation, management, use, interpretation and preservation of digital resources; conducting research on digital curation issues; and developing technologies and tools to support best practice in this area. The DCI promotes innovative multi-faceted research projects that involve collaboration among faculty, students, practitioners, and researchers both national, and internationality. InterPARES International Symposium, May 29, 02010, University of British Columbia, Vancouver, Canada

The International Research on Permanent Authentic Records in Electronic Systems (InterPARES) 3 Project is an international collaborative endeavour composed of 15 regional, national and multinational research teams. The overall goal of the Project is to enable small and medium-sized public and private records/archival units, organizations or programs, which are responsible for the digital records resulting from government, business, research, art and entertainment, social and/or community activities, to preserve over the long term authentic records that satisfy the requirements of their stakeholders and society’s needs for an adequate record of its past.

Begun in 2007, the project has reached its mid-term mark and is going to present and discuss its findings and products to date in an International Symposium that will see the participation of speakers from North and South America, Europe and Asia.

TOPICS WILL INCLUDE: the impact of organizational culture on the development of preservation programs; various cities' strategies for digital preservation; digital preservation in structured and unstructured environments (law enforcement and financial organizations versus academic and art organizations); pervasive issues in digital preservation (e-mail, vital records, XML, web 2.0); issues of terminology, and more.

WHO SHOULD ATTEND? Records and information managers, archivists, IT professionals, librarians, administrators, auditors, any decision maker responsible for digital records policies and procedures, and of course students, regardless of whether they are in the records and archives field...everybody should learn about digital preservation.

Museum Computer Network 2010 Conference call for proposals

Following the great success of last year International Symposium, the University of British Columbia Student Chapter of the Association of Canadian Archivists, on March 12, 2010, will hold a whole day International Symposium entitled "Preserving the Memory of the World." Under the auspices of the UNESCO Memory of the World (MoW) Program, which inspired its content, the keynote will be given by a representative of the MoW program, and every speech will be about the preservation of some type of documentary heritage, with a strong emphasis on the digital.

The speakers are: Johanna Smith, Jean-Stéphen Piché and Brian Thurgood from Library and Archives Canada, Lothar Jordan from the Kleist-Museum in Frankfurt (Germany) and UNESCO, George Blood from the Safe Sound Archive in Philadelphia, Dato' Sidek Jamil from the National Archivist of Malaysia, Tyler Walters from the Georgia Institute of Technology Library and Information Center, Babak Hamidzadeh from the Library of Congress, and Ken Thibodeau form NARA. ECA 2010: 8th European Conference on Digital Archiving, April 02010

The 8th European Conference on Digital Archiving, abbreviated as ECA 2010, will be held in Geneva between April 28 and 30, 02010. Online registration for the conference is open. One of the speakers at the closing session is Charles Leadbeater, currently known for his book on ideasourcing called We-Think: Mass Innovation, Not Mass Production: The Power of Mass Creativity (02008).

PREMIS Implementation Fair, San Francisco, USA, October 02009

On October 7, 2009, the PREMIS Editorial Committee will sponsor a free, one-day PREMIS Implementation Fair at the Presidio's Officers' Club in San Francisco. The PREMIS Implementation Fair immediately follows iPres 2009, the 6th International Conference on Preservation of Digital Objects, held in San Francisco on October 5-6.

The PREMIS Implementation Fair is for anyone with some knowledge of PREMIS who might be planning or is already involved in a PREMIS implementation.

Several PREMIS-implementers repositories will present case-studies at the day-long event. Confirmed case studies include:

Second international m-Libraries Conference (July 02009) presentations available

According to this blog post from the University of British Columbia's Irving K. Barber Learning Centre, presentations are now available from "The second international m-Libraries Conference, held and sponsored by the University of British Columbia in conjunction with Athabasca University,The Open University and Thompson Rivers University...." The conference occurred on June 23 and 24, 02009 at UBC’s Irving K. Barber Learning Centre and the First Nations Longhouse. The blog post went on to note the conference objectives:

"This conference aimed to explore and share work carried out in libraries around the world to deliver services and resources to users ‘on the move,’ via a growing plethora of mobile and hand-held devices. The conference will bring together researchers, technical developers, managers and library practitioners to exchange experience and expertise and generate ideas for future developments."

I-CHORA 5: Fifth International Conference on the History of Records and Archives, London, UK, July 02010

The Fifth International Conference on the History of Records and Archives (I-CHORA 5) will be held in London, UK, between July 1 and 3, 02010. The title of the conference is "Records, archives and technology: interdependence over time." According to the conference Web site, "The conference will explore this subject from a historical perspective, but will interpret it as broadly as possible. It will consider the evolving interrelationships between records, archives and any technology, not just the digital technology of our own time; and will embrace any kind of interdependence, including the role, challenges or opportunities of technology in creating, maintaining or using records. It will provide an opportunity to examine these topics from the standpoint of different disciplines, including philosophy, sociology, anthropology, archaeology, history, archival science, computer science, law and literary and cultural studies." A call for papers is available.
